(Granby) Five young people between 12 and 13 years will live a dream in August, when they will participate in the largest international competition of hip hop, the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Las Vegas. The T.eenagers troupe of Tendanse dance school, was ranked for the championship after being mounted on the second place in the junior category at the national final.
Alison Frendo dancers, Coralie Dubois, Kiliane Rufiange - who danced on stage with Justin Bieber recently - Isanne Fleury and Alexia Hébert will travel.
The national final, which brought together teams having qualified in the east and in the west, stood in Laval last Sunday. The top three teams by category (junior, 13-17 years, adults and megacrew) pass to the next step. In the case of Granbyenne school, one team had tried his luck, just to focus on its success.
“Canada is one of the strongest countries, says Genevieve Gallant, director of the school Tendanse, choreographer and coach of the T.eenagers troupe. It’s very difficult to get a place.When we arrive at the world championships, we have a certain reputation. It is a very very very looked country. ”
Indeed, Canada is among the most respected country on the hip hop scene alongside Japan, New Zealand and the Philippines.
So no wonder that girls have shed all the tears from their bodies when they received confirmation of their participation in the world championship. “It’s not a job for one year. It’s been several years our chance, recalls Ms. Gallant. They sacrifice a lot. ”
The lives of these young girls, all these years, is to just dance, school and family.
As this was their last chance in the junior category, participation in Las Vegas is a consecration. “It was all out,” illustrates Geneviève Gallant.
Three Canadian teams will join representatives from fifty countries compete from 8 to 13 August.
A challenge
Teams can score points in accordance with a series of very specific criteria - for example by integrating three hip hop dance styles in the choreography of one minute thirty. Such a short time is a challenge for the choreographer and his assistants Annie Gaucher Sarinah Bédard and dancers.
“This is the first time I participate. It’s been two years that I will see the competitions. It’s something! Everyone brings his culture, the level is really hard, says Geneviève Gallant. We will work hard. ”
The training will resume shortly for the troupe. After an intense weekend of emotions, with the end of year show the school Friday and Saturday and Sunday’s competition, it takes a few days of well-deserved rest.
